Placitas is a village just to the north of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque, and it’s known for its open spaces and lots of access to hiking.

The Strip Mine Trailhead, Placitas Trailhead, and Placitas Open Space are all places where you can take the dog out on the leash or lace up those trail running shoes and enjoy the sun and desert landscape. You can also reach the north end of Cibola National Forest from Placitas and even get to the Sandia Man Cave.
